There are over 70,000 children in care in Britain today. On average they pass through 11 stages of care. In their late teens they have to make the difficult transition from childhood to adulthood, from care to independence. A Practice Flat is one of the state’s mechanisms to gently introduce these children to the adult world. 365 is set in the transitory and surreal world of this Practice Flat.

365 follows the lives of a group of young people who, with their humour, imagination, wit and raw courage, pass through the flat and take their first faltering steps towards adulthood and the outside world.

A powerfully visual piece of theatre, 365 has been created especially for the Edinburgh International Festival by Vicky Featherstone, with text by David Harrower, one of Scotland’s leading playwrights.

Ben Allan, Scott Fletcher, Siu Hun Li, John Paul McCue and Marlene Madenge are all making their professional debuts in 365.

Ryan Fletcher has previously appeared in Black Watch and The Wolves in the Walls for the National Theatre of Scotland and was known to TV viewers in his role as Vadar in BBC Scotland’s River City. Simone James most recently appeared in Citizenship and Chatroom at the National Theatre in London. This is Laura McMonagle’s first role since leaving River City, in which she played Zoe. This is Helen Mallon’s third appearance with the National Theatre of Scotland; she previously appeared in The Wolves in the Walls and Tutti Frutti. Ashley Smith has most recently appeared in Liar (TAG/Citizens’ Theatre, Glasgow) and Gayle Telfer Stevens in Jerry Springer The Opera and Doctor Who. Rebecca Smith made her professional debut in Little Otik for the National Theatre of Scotland and Vanishing Point and Owen Whitelaw appeared in the National Theatre of Scotland’s Workshop and Traverse co-production of Rupture. Julie Wilson Nimmo is best known to TV audiences for her role as Miss Hooley in the popular children’s show Balamory and last appeared with the National Theatre of Scotland as Miss Toner in Tutti Frutti.
